What's New in QuickField 5.4

Transient electromagnetic field simulation is now combined with the connected electric circuit analysis
Combined field/circuit analysis introduced in QuickField 5.3 for AC magnetic problems is now extended to the transient electromagnetics. It is now possible to simulate transient electromagnetic processes in the massive conductors with presence of the saturated ferromagnetic cores and permanent magnets, taking into account conductor connection topology and properties.

Circuit Editor provides defining of the time-dependent field source parameters and passive circuit components. Currents and voltages in the all branches of the circuit are then shown in the circuit calculator window and presented by plots.

The new combined transient magnetic field and electric circuit analysis capability allows for solving real-world eddy current problems in all their complexity, including all possible variations of winding connections, end zone effects, active and reactive loads, etc. This primarily applies to a huge variety of electric machines, but also to any magnetic device with solid (or thick) conductors.

New postprocessing capabilities include in-depth time-domain analysis of the electric circuit attached to the magnetic field simulation domain.

Enhanced LabelMover could now manipulate the electric circuit components and offers new type of study – tolerance analysis.
New version of the simple tool for serial and parametrical calculations LabelMover is now able to modify settings of the connected electric circuit as easy as the field model parameters. Currents and voltages in the circuit branches may be included into the list of calculated values. These features refine and complement the customary functionality of the previous versions of this tool.

In many practical cases the actual parameters of the model, sizes and relative positions of parts may be different from the nominal values. Exciting feature of the new LabelMover is its ability to perform the tolerance analysis, i.e. study of the result parameters variation caused by the manufacturing inaccuracies and unstable material properties. After the base QuickField problem is formulated and solved, and some of its settings may be subject of the random or directional changes, LabelMover will automatically generate series of QuickField calculations required for the analyzing the statistical distribution of the results. This tool may also be applied for calculations of the maximal deviation of input parameters still providing the required level of the result quality

Actual thickness of the plane-parallel problem is now taken into account
New parameter "length in the Z-axis direction" is added to the plane-parallel models. In the previous versions of QuickField the Z-length was always supposed to be 1 meter. Now integral parameters, like thermal power, mechanical force and torque, flux linkage are calculated with actual model thickness. It is especially important for the problems with electrical circuit connected, because there is no more necessity to adjust the circuit parameters and calculated voltages according to the actual model depth. Z-axis length is also accessible from LabelMover and any other ActiveField applications.

Model Editor improvements
Introduced in the previous version QuickField 5.3 drag and drop operations visual editing of the geometric model are enhanced now. Current position of the dragged objects is now displayed for every moment, giving better control of the result.

Moreover, it is now possible to perform dragging in two modes: with and without keeping the topological integrity between the dragged and stationary parts of the model. Default ties keeping mode may be switched off by pressing of ALT key.

Picture refreshing after changing of the meshed block selection become considerably faster. Image quality was improved both for printing and saving to file. Grid and coordinate axes are now displayed correctly.

Length units are added for the coordinate display in the status bar.

Hotkeys (Ctrl + and Ctrl -) are added for fast zooming in and out.

QuickField installation program supports 64-bit Windows
QuickField installation program now transparently supports 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows 2003 Server. The installer detects 64-bit Windows automatically, no user action required.

The Intel Itanium processor is not yet supported by QuickField installer.
