STOCK HISTORY CHANGES
A list of changes in Version 2.2 of StockHistory
- A number of bug fixes and minor cosmetic modifications
- The menus have been reorganised, in particular a number of options that now have buttons have been
removed fromt the right mouse button pop up menu.
- There were some problems with the Yahoo download, hopefully all now sorted
- There was a problem with the previous version if you had stockmarket indices in your
stockwatch, caused by the longer names used for these. This has now been fixed, thought the names
will be truncated to 22 characters (there really is room for more on the displays!).
- The FTSE 100 index (UKX) is still automatically downloaded from the data at the top of the stockwatch
pages. This will change soon with the UKX only being downloaded if you have UKX in your stockwatch.
- A graph of any stock in the StockWatch can now be added as an overlay, not just the FTSE 100 graph.
- A stockwatch can have "none" selected as the connection method. Allowing reference stockwatches
eg. information on profit on bought and sold shares.
- Multiple copies of a stock can be placed in a stockwatch, useful for a profit portfolio
see above.
- A sale price can now be entered and is displayed in the portfolio view - useful for
profit portfolios (see above) as well as for showing profit on shorting.
- The portfolio view will display profit in three ways:
- If a buy price is entered but no sell price profit is calculated on current bid (normal profit)
- If a sell price is entered but no buy price profit is calculated on current offer (shorting profit)
- If both a buy price and sell price are entered profit is calculated on these prices (closed profit)
- Two history sizes can now be entered:
- Intra day history - this is the same as before
- End of day history - this takes the last stored price each day before it "falls off" the
Intra day history. Allowing a longer daily history to be stored without soaking up so much system resources.
Note: there may be a problem with the old data files with this feature - I had a problem once - that I removed
simply by going into the properties dialog of each stockwatch and simply selecting OK which reset (and thereby
reformatted) the old settings.
- The data has been compressed a little - should be around 30% less storage. Large histories were beginning to
get a little out of hand! Note this means that calculated values like stop loss values will only be held to the
nearest 1/4 pence. Storage requirements are now approximately 4.4k per stock per 100 snapshots. A stockwatch
with 20 stocks in it and a total history of 400 will require around 350k - this is both disk storage and
memory whilst the program is running.
- The full history of one stock can be exported and imported as a .shk file. The intention here is to
allow StockHistory users to "swap" stock files. If one person becomes interested in a stock for which someone
else already has a history the .shk file can be exported and emailed to them.
A list of changes in Version 2.1 of StockHistory
- A number of bug fixes and minor cosmetic modifications
- You can now copy stored data for a stock to another StockList. Note however that unless you have
always updated all stockwatches at the same time, the time for the copied stock may differ from it's new
StockWatch. This means that in historic displays the time titles may no longer be correct and could be
either the original StockWatch times or the copied stock times. However the stored times are correct for
the stock and will be correctly displayed in graphs for example. The copied stock will be added (if necessary)
to the ESI Stockwatch.
- Stocks can be added to a stockwatch and will be added (if necessary) to the the ESI Stockwatch. Deleting
a stock from an ESI stockwatch must still be done with your browser online.
- You can now disable the automatic addition of stocks found in the ESI stockwatch page, this can allow easier
management of the stockwatch page from StockHistory, in that if you delete a stock in StockHistory, but not on
the ESI stockwatch page it will not immediately reappear on your next download.
- The EPIC code is now displayed in a separate column. This is to enable one or two other changes coming.
- The ability to download data from Yahoo as a back up to the ESI service
- A memo facility has been added - similar to the Stock Notes, except there is only one memo per StockWatch,
and if there is memo it is automatically displayed when the StockWatch file is opened.
- You can now sort the files in a stockwatch under different criterion - currently only Name, EPIC or price
change, but plan to add others in the future eg. spread, profit etc.
- You can now set a start time for the auto update. Allowing you to leave the computer switched on and it
will automatically start downloading, for example at 08:30.
- A button has been added to instantly toggle the overlay of the FTSE100 graph on the currently displayed graph.
- A sample file has been added to the download.
A list of changes in Version 2.0 of StockHistory
-
A number of bug fixes and minor cosmetic modifications
-
Graphing has been added. Note: due to a problem with snapshot time stamps the graph of the FTSE100
may initially be something of a mess. This will gradually correct itself as the older data is replaced
with new. The number of times graph views can be displayed is restricted for non unregistered users. This
may also be a problem with older data on some other stocks.
-
The stored data for individual snapshots can now be edited. This can be useful for removing spikes from
your data (though it is a little laborious). SETS stocks are particularly prone to this problem. Also
useful when occasionally the ESI Stockwatch table format gets corrupted.
-
You can now automatically average up/down stock purchase details.
-
A tips information box at start up has been added. Also available from the help menu option. If anyone has
any useful tips they think could be added into here I'd be pleased to hear from them.
-
Notes can now be added to individual Stocks.
A list of changes in Version 1.51 of StockHistory
-
Commission can now be specified either as a percentage or a fixed price commission.
-
Alert saving bug fixed
-
Profit calculator added
A list of changes in Version 1.5 of StockHistory
-
A major bug has been fixed which may have caused all sorts of problems if StockHistory .shy files are
saved in a directory path containing blank spaces eg. c:\Program Files\StockHistory\
-
Dates have been added into the data and are typically displayed with times showing only the day of
month eg. 9:15 on the 12/11/98 would be 12-09:15
-
The A for announcements is now picked up and displayed. Slightly different location to ESI, but I'm sure
you'll find it!!
-
The storage requirements were beginning to get a little high, both for disk space, and memory whilst running,
these have been reduced considerably.
-
A file export facility has been introduced, allowing the current display to be output in .csv format that
can then be loaded into a spreadsheet such as Excel, and analysed using graphs etc. Note that if you
have a history of say 100 snapshots and have only downloaded say 50 for one of the stocks in the
stockwatch then the .csv file will generate 50 empty cells in that stock's row.
-
References to the Current Price have been changed to the Mid Price. I just felt this was more accurate.
-
The restrictions on unregistered users ahve been eased, to allow them limited use of restricted features, enabling
them to preview these features.
A list of changes in Version 1.4 of StockHistory
-
A number of minor cosmetic and bug fixes.
-
In particular a rather nasty scrolling bug has been identified and fixed
-
New Portfolio feature added. Very simple mechanism allows you to view the profit/loss made since a purchase.
-
Stop Loss, Start Rise and fixed price Alerts added. Start Rise is the exact opposite of Stop Loss and
allows easy detection of a stock price beginning to rise.
-
Note the portfolio and alert features are only available to registered users.
A list of changes in Version 1.3 of StockHistory
-
A number of minor cosmetic and bug fixes.
-
An individual stock may now be selected by clicking anywhere on it's line on the display.
-
Fixed display bug; on changing display the display reverted to the latest data no matter what range was
being viewed before, then switched to the original range when scrolled. Now the Selected range of data
is retained when view type or style is changed.
-
Buttons added to vary the range limits and also for some more commonly used views.
-
Still not fixed the dialup problems - but look at the help page for a work around.
-
New view added to display all the historic data for one stock.
-
If a stock is not detected when downloading a dummy blank record is stored.
-
Stocks may be deleted from a stockwatch, however this should only be done if it is deleted from the ESI
StockWatch otherwise it will only be automatically added again at the next download.
-
Registration has now been added. Certain new features may not be available unless you have registered. Those
who have already registered will get their pass numbers free. Graphing will be added later and will only
be available to registered users.
-
A crude alert mechanism has been added - this will be improved later.
-
View settings are all now on a per document basis, ie. no longer global.
-
Font settings are now global (ie. the same for all documents) and are stored for reuse next time StockHistory is run
A list of changes in Version 1.2 of StockHistory
-
Automatic dial up is now available. IMPORTANT currently this is will probably require manual confirmation (depending upon your system set up) and will require manually hanging up. Sorry about this it may be a little while before I can fix it.
-
Automated updates now added. Automatically downloads at regualr intervals. Due to the reasons given above this is probably only useful to people with permanent internet connections as it will not hang up after a download, however it will use a currently open connection.
- A much larger record of snapshots can now be stored and a selected range viewed.
- the previous view is now removed and any individual snapshot can be viewed, the previous difference will now show the difference between the last snapshot viewed and its previous one.
A list of changes in Version 1.1 of StockHistory
You will need to use your browser back button to return from this page
IMPORTANT - Sorry you will need to delete you current *.shy files as the data format has changed and the old versions will probably crash the program. This problem will not occur in the future as the program version number is now stored in the data files.
-
The type of current display is now shown in the status bar at the bottom of the main window.
-
A save all option implemented both as a file menu option and as a toolbar button.
-
Fixed bug whereby if you create a new file whilst in Historic mode the program crashed.
-
View/fonts now updates the fonts of all open documents not just the current active one.
-
New option added: File/Preferences has one option to reload all open files when program next run.
-
Certain data now stored in a local ini file:font, all view settings, preference settings (just one at the moment - see 5 above)
-
The historic number edited for each stockwatch document is not now used for the display (see below) allowing a much larger history to be viewed.
-
The number of historic values to display is now set in the File/preferences dialog and applies to all open documents. Allowing this number of values to be viewed from any stage in the historic file. See new ReadMe.txt for details.
-
The FTSE 100 value is now loaded and stored, and can be viewed in the Historic Current view. Note that it will appear under the same time column headings but with ESI this value is actually going to be 20 mins old.
-
There is an option to "autosave" any modified files on exiting the program set in File/Preferences.
