Introduction
Renaming files is tedious,
especially when there are many individual files and each file is being
modified in the same way. One common example of this is large collections of
music files, when the artist's name is added or removed from the start of
each file name. This program is designed to help in this type of situation
by automating the renaming in a simple and straightforward way. Please
Note - if you want more control over the renaming of files then this
program is not for you; this program is simply designed for people "without
a Ph.D in file renaming" which the more advanced programs seem to require.
Example 1: Add Folder
to Filename
C:\ARTIST\SONG.WMA
converted to
C:\ARTIST\ARTIST - SONG.WMA
Benefit - the file can
then be copied out from the ARTIST folder to another folder without losing
the folder name (in this case "artist") information.
Example 2: Remove
Folder from Filename
C:\ARTIST\ARTIST -
SONG.WMA converted to
C:\ARTIST\SONG.WMA
Benefit - the file can
be copied back in to the ARTIST folder and then the folder name (in this
case "artist") can be removed from the filename.
Example 3: Remove
Folder from Filename and Move file to sub-folder
C:\ARTIST - SONG.WMA
converted to
C:\ARTIST\SONG.WMA
Benefit - after
removing the folder name (in this case "artist") from the filename, the
file will be moved in to the sub-folder (which will be created if it does
not already exist).
Features
The program is extremely simple to use.
First, select the folder, then change any of the default options, then click
on a button:
 List
all MATCHING filenames only: This will list all the files in the
selected folder (and optionally in all
sub-folders) that match the pattern (by default *.* but can be changed using
*. or ? characters to create any valid search string e.g: *.wma or 0?.* or
*00?.mp3 ). This is useful to preview which files will be processed.
ADD folder to filename: This
will add the folder name (or the specified text) to the filename (only if
not already at the start). This is the exact reverse of the REMOVE function.
REMOVE folder from filename:This will
remove the text up to the - in the filename ONLY IF that text is the same as
the foldername (or the specified text). This is the exact reverse of the ADD
function.
REMOVE then MOVE to sub-folder: This
will remove the text from the start of the name up to the - character and
create a sub-folder (if the folder does not already exist) based on that
name, then move the renamed file to the new (or existing) folder.
REMOVE first WORD only: This will
remove the first word from the start of the filename (i.e. any combination
of characters up to and including the first space character).
EXPLORE selected folder: this will
open the currently active folder using Windows Explorer.
Stop Processing: This button only
appears when the program is processing files and clicking the button will
immediately stop the currently processing task.
EXIT: Ends the program.

for Microsoft Windows XP (and earlier) and requires that the Visual Basic 6
Run-time environment is already installed on the pc (download vbrun60sp5.exe
from the Microsoft web site at:

per-user basis (at US$5 per user)
according to the following terms:
1. RESTRICTIONS ON USE.
You may not alter, merge, modify or adapt the software product
(individually and collectively, the "Software") in any way including
reverse engineering, disassembling or decompiling. You may not sell,
distribute, loan, rent, lease, license or otherwise transfer the
Software or any copy, except, you may permanently transfer the
Software (including all prior versions) provided you transfer the
Software Agreement, all media and documentation and you do not retain
any copies of the Software. If the Software is demonstration and
evaluation ("D&E") software, you may not transfer the Software for
commercial purposes. You may not disclose the software
registration key provided to you to any third party unless as part of
a complete permanent transfer as described above.
2. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS.
All intellectual property rights in the Software and user
documentation are owned by Sollazzo Consulting and are protected by
Australian intellectual property laws (including patent, trademark and
copyright laws), other applicable intellectual property laws, and
international treaty provisions. Sollazzo Consulting retains all
rights not expressly granted.
3. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY.
Because software is inherently complex and may not be completely free
of errors, it is your responsibility to verify your work and to make
backup copies. In no event will Sollazzo Consulting be liable for (i)
indirect, special, incidental, tort, economic, cover or consequential
damages arising out of the use of or inability to use Sollazzo
Consulting products or services, including, without limitation,
damages or costs relating to the loss of profits, business, goodwill,
data or computer programs, even if advised of the possibility of such
damages, or (ii) any claim that arose more than one (1) year prior to
the institution of suit thereon. In no case shall Sollazzo
Consulting's liability exceed the amount paid by you for the Software.
The foregoing limitations shall not apply to claims relating to death
or personal injury which arise out of products deemed to be consumer
goods under applicable law. Some states, provinces or countries do not
allow the exclusion or limitation of implied warranties or limitation
of liability for incidental or consequential damages, so the above
exclusion or limitation may not apply to you.
4. GENERAL.
No Sollazzo Consulting reseller, distributor, agent or employee is
authorised to make any modification or addition to this Agreement.
