Installing and uninstalling

Installing tNotes

To install tNotes, simply copy all of the files from the distribution archive (originaly named tnotes10en.zip) to a directory of your choice and run tNotes.exe. The software will install by itself by creating the necessary keys in the registry. If the installation succeeds, you should be able to create a new profile from the Users manager dialog. After creating and selecting a profile, you should see the main window and be able to read your first note.

It is recommended that you create a folder tNotes below the Program Files folder. It is also recommended that you create .ini files into the same folder as the software.

The following files are required:

You can get those files on Tom Software website and many distribution websites and FTP servers, shareware and freeware CD-ROMs, etc. Install these files to your Windows system folder (usually C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM). If they are not present, you will be asked for them when attempting to launch the software.

Installing tNotes over a Beta version

Installing over Beta 2

tNotes final version and Beta 2 can't both run at the same time because of a protection at launch time. You can extract all of the files from the distribution archive of the final version over the files from Beta 2 (replace them if prompted). Because the final version doesn't use the same registry entry than Beta 2, so it will proceed to a normal installation. When creating a new profile, point to your old .ini file instead of creating a new one, so you will have all of your notes intact, but you config (options and views) will not be preserved.

Installing over Beta 1

tNotes final version and Beta 1 are so different that they can both run at the same with no problem (but do not launch two different instances of Beta 1). Move (or rename) tNotes.exe from Beta 1 to another folder. Install the final version as recommended above. To move all of your old notes from Beta 1 to your newly installed final version, run both at the same time and copy them by hand (you can select text from Beta 1, right-click and select Copy, then right-click in the window in the final version and select Paste).

It didn't work

By definition, a Beta version is for public evaluation of a software. You should not have saved important/sensitive data in a Beta version of tNotes. I'm sorry if you can't get your old notes back. I don't support any of the Beta versions anymore (I have never did it anyway). Thanks for understanding. (Yes, that was a disclosure!)

Uninstalling tNotes

To uninstall the software, just remove the directory you created and containing tNotes.exe and the other file from the distribution archive. You should also remove any created .ini files unless you plan on reinstalling tNotes later.
