Opensource and free sofware

PageRank of your pages is one of the main factor that decide of their positions in the results of search engines.

It is calculated according to the number of external links which point towards your pages, but also according to the INTERNAL links of your site.

LinkSpirit is neither a demonstration nor a limited version. It is a FREE software.

LinkSpirit: a specialized tool to manage internal links

The existing links between the various pages of your site can considerably influence the final pagerank of each one of it.

PageRank that you receive from the external links can be used to the last drop or can be wasted because of a bad distribution of your internal links.

LinkSpirit enables you to optimize your site and to easily gain several rows in the classifications of the search engines.
It will:
Calculate and optimize the internal distribution of your PageRank.
Calculate PageRank lost by the bad exploitation of your internal links
Calculate PageRank distributed by your site to the sites towards which you created links.
Check your internal links, detect the dead links and carry out an auto or a manual correction of these links.
Make an inventory of the orphan pages and of pages hidden by the "robots" instruction or by the robots.txt file
Make an inventory of the file names not respecting HTML standards (because of accents or spaces) and carry out an autocorrection of these names.
Make an inventory of the links using the character \ instead of / and carry out an autocorrection of these links.
Check the syntax of your "robots.txt" file, create or edit this file using an assistant.
Edit the code of your pages in text mode.
Edit the "robots" meta tag

While carrying out the various checks suggested by LinkSpirit on your own site, you will be surprised by the number of small problems that it will enable you to detect and update.

How does it work?

To understand the operation and the interest of the pagerank calculation, read initially our introduction to the pagerank.

LinkSpirit applies the PageRank formula described by its inventors Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page in "The Anatomy of a Large-Scale Hypertextual Web Search Engine". The formula suggested is as follows:

If T1,T2... TN are pages linking to page A, the pagerank of page A is computed as follows:

PR(x) is the pagerank of the x page
C(x) is the number of outgoing links from the x page
The total vote is “damped down” by multiplying it by the factor “d” wich usually get the value of 0,85. Then, by adding (1-d) to this result, we obtain an average pagerank of 1.

Circular calculation?

Yes! Because let us not forget that, if the pagerank of page A depends on the pageranks of the pages which point towards it, it is not forbidden to A to point, in its turn, towards one of these pages and to influence its pagerank.

LinkSpirit thus carries out a calculation in a 20 stages loop to determine the total distribution of the pagerank inside your site.

The results do not take account of the pagerank brought by external links. It is thus an internal pagerank.

To know your total pagerank (WITH the external bonds), download the GoogleBar.

The goal of LinkSpirit is to check that the internal pageranks of all your pages:
Are pretty equivalent, if you wish to give to each page an equal chance to appear in the results of the search engines
Privilege a page with the prejudice of the others, if it is what you wish (although that is generally disadvised)

The calculation suggested by Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page gives an average pagerank of 1 for the whole of your site. This type of result can surprise the GoogleBar users which are used to a pagerank from 1 to 10. LinkSpirit thus proceeds to a small adjustment of the result by applying the following formula:

LinkSpirit PageRank = 5*Log(1+PageRank of Sergey and Lawrence)/Log(2).

This formula brings back the average of the pageranks to 5 and allots a logarithmic scale similar to the GoogleBar one.

However, keep in mind that this pagerank is a relative value which should be used only to compare your pages between them!
