In XP Right Click on RunTutor.exe and send to Desktop(create
shortcut)
In Windows 9x RightClick on Runtutor.exe and send to

Sometimes Windows 9x display drivers will not switch from SVGA to VGA
properly.
In the shortcut properties use advanced in the program tab; to tell
windows to run tutor.exe in msdos mode.

Using Windows and IF ALL ELSE FAILS
With graphic cards supporting less and less bios graphics; you might
need this section today or someday in the future.
First make sure you have the latest video drivers.
For example, I was have trouble getting Illinois Driver's Tutor
to
go from SVGA mode to VGA mode in Windows 9x.
I installed updated Windows 9x video drivers , and the problem
went away.
If using Illinois Driver's Tutor in a non windows
environment;
you could try "tutor.exe nosplash"
There is a free dos emulator designed for dos games on Windows 9x,
Windows NT, Linux and Mac.
It is called DOSBox.
Illinois Driver's Tutor runs slightly slow on it. But still does a good
job.
Running SVGA title page, ending page, and Sound should be
absolutely no problem for it. (Except for the Mac)
You can get the latest version at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net.
If you have Windows, you will find D-Fend
useful for DosBox. It is a DOSBox front-end.
(Use google to find it)
How to use D-Fend with DOSBox:
Use the Add with Wizard. Use Browse to Set the Game Exe to
Drive:\DrvTutor\TUTOR.EXE
You will want to set the cycles to the highest settings. 10,0000-20,000
cycles.
You may have to choose between speed and sound. When the cycles
are set very high in DOSBox the sound is terrible.
Lowing the cycles fixes this. But of course you could simply
choose not to turn the sound on at all, and avoid this problem.

Windows Setup Options
Simply run the "Tutor Setup Options" in the Illinois Driver's group in
the
start menu/programs.
Or run The TutorSetup.exe in the DrvTutor Director.

DOS Installation
If you are using a dos emulator. A 2.88 MB dos Image of Illinois
Driver's
is provide in DrvTutor.img .
You could format a flash drive and put freedos on it and make it
bootable.
Illinois Driver's Tutor could then be unzipped onto the flash drive and
ran
when rebooted from the flash drive.
There is a way to access the Windows NT NTFS drive from dos. You
will need
the freeware NTFS4DOS
From
http:/datapol.de/dpe/freeware.
You
can boot to dos from a floppy, flash drive, or cd. Next use NTFS4DOS to
access your Windows 2000 or XP ntfs drive.
Remember to use a mouse driver.
Next; run Illinois Dirver's
tutor from the hard drive.
Unzip the program to a directory of your choice.
If you are using DosBox; then run DosBox.
To Run type "TUTOR"
I doubt if you would have trouble with the SVGA Title and Ending pages
but if you do:
TYPE "TUTOR VGA"
This uses VGA mode for the title page and ending page.
(The Mac DosBox needs this to work properly)
To have Sound in the Title and Ending pages:
"TUTOR SOUNDON"
There are two ways to use different fonts with Illinois Driver's Tutor.
1. Add Font:"FontName" TO command
Example "Tutor Font:Readable"
This tells the program to Readable font in the Tutor fonts directory
2. Set the Environmental variable TUTORFONT to the font you want. The
font can be anywhere on your hard drive. Set it from the command line
or
set the environmental variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
Example
"SET TUTORFONT=C:\DOS\FONTS\READABLE.F16"
This Tells Tutor that the font to use is C:\DOS\FONTS\READABLE.F16
If you don't tell Tutor to use a font it will use the default font
Win.F16 in Tutor's Fonts Directory.

Font Capabilities
I have added font capabilities to Illinois Driver's Tutor. This means
if
you don't like the font used in Illinois Driver's Tutor you can tell
the
program to
use a different font. See Installation details for more info. There are
many fonts available
in the fonts directory.
I have also include a viewfont program so you can see what the fonts
look
like. Most of the fonts is just showing off the program. But if you
have
trouble reading the monitor;try using the READABLE font.
