And I, having come unto you, brethren, came -- not in superiority of discourse
or wisdom -- declaring to you the testimony of God, (KJV) And
I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of
wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. (ASV) And I,

6 | (GRK) sofian de laloumen en toiv
teleioiv sofian de ou tou aiwnov toutou oude twn arcontwn tou aiwnov toutou twn
katargoumenwn (YLT) And wisdom we speak among the perfect, and
wisdom not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age -- of those becoming
useless, (KJV) Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are
perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world,
that come to nought: (ASV) We speak wisdom, however, among
them that are fullgrown: yet a wisdom not of this world, nor of the rulers of
this world, who are coming to nought: |

sofian yeou en musthriw thn apokekrummenhn hn prowrisen o yeov pro twn aiwnwn
eiv doxan hmwn (YLT) but we speak the hidden wisdom of God in
a secret, that God foreordained before the ages to our glory, (KJV)
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom,
which God ordained before the world unto our glory: (ASV) but
we speak God's wisdom in a mystery, even the wisdom that hath
been hidden, which God foreordained before the worlds unto our glory:

(GRK) hn oudeiv twn arcontwn tou aiwnov toutou egnwken ei gar
egnwsan ouk an ton kurion thv doxhv estaurwsan (YLT) which no
one of the rulers of this age did know, for if they had known, the Lord of the
glory they would not have crucified; (KJV) Which none of the
princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have
crucified the Lord of glory. (ASV) which none of the rulers of
this world hath known: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the
Lord of glory: |

| (GRK) alla kaywv gegraptai a ofyalmov ouk eiden kai
ouv ouk hkousen kai epi kardian anyrwpou ouk anebh a htoimasen o yeov toiv
agapwsin auton (YLT) but, according as it hath been written,
`What eye did not see, and ear did not hear, and upon the heart of man came not
up, what God did prepare for those loving Him --' (KJV) But
as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into
the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
(ASV) but as it is written, Things which eye saw not, and ear
heard not, And which entered not into the heart of man, Whatsoever
things God prepared for them that love him. |

yeov apekaluqen dia tou pneumatov autou to gar pneuma panta ereuna kai ta bayh
tou yeou (YLT) but to us did God reveal them through
His Spirit, for the Spirit all things doth search, even the depths of God,
(KJV) But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the
Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (ASV)
But unto us God revealed them through the Spirit: for the Spirit

11 | (GRK) tiv gar
oiden anyrwpwn ta tou anyrwpou ei mh to pneuma tou anyrwpou to en autw outwv
kai ta tou yeou oudeiv oiden ei mh to pneuma tou yeou (YLT)
for who of men hath known the things of the man, except the spirit of the man
that is in him? so also the things of God no one hath known, except the
Spirit of God. (KJV) For what man knoweth the things of a
man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth
no man, but the Spirit of God. (ASV) For who among men knoweth
the things of a man, save the spirit of the man, which is in him? even so the
things of God none knoweth, save the Spirit of God. |
12 | (GRK) hmeiv
de ou to pneuma tou kosmou elabomen alla to pneuma to ek tou yeou ina eidwmen
ta upo tou yeou carisyenta hmin (YLT) And we the spirit of the
world did not receive, but the Spirit that is of God, that we may know
the things conferred by God on us, (KJV) Now we have
received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we
might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (ASV)
But we received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is
from God; that we might know the things that were freely given to us of God.

(GRK) a kai laloumen ouk en didaktoiv anyrwpinhv sofiav logoiv all
en didaktoiv pneumatov agiou pneumatikoiv pneumatika sugkrinontev
(YLT) which things also we speak, not in words taught by human
wisdom, but in those taught by the Holy Spirit, with spiritual things spiritual
things comparing, (KJV) Which things also we speak, not in
the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth;
comparing spiritual things with spiritual. (ASV) Which things
also we speak, not in words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Spirit
teacheth; combining spiritual things with spiritual words.

qucikov de anyrwpov ou decetai ta tou pneumatov tou yeou mwria gar autw
estin kai ou dunatai gnwnai oti pneumatikwv anakrinetai (YLT)
and the natural man doth not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for to
him they are foolishness, and he is not able to know them, because
spiritually they are discerned; (KJV) But the natural man
receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto
him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
(ASV) Now the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of
God: for they are foolishness unto him; and he cannot know them, because they
are spiritually judged. |
15 | (GRK) o de pneumatikov anakrinei men panta
autov de up oudenov anakrinetai (YLT) and he who is spiritual,
doth discern indeed all things, and he himself is by no one discerned;
(KJV) But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is
judged of no man. (ASV) But he that is spiritual judgeth all
things, and he himself is judged of no man. |
16 | (GRK) tiv gar egnw
noun kuriou ov sumbibasei auton hmeiv de noun cristou ecomen (YLT)
for who did know the mind of the Lord that he shall instruct Him? and we
-- we have the mind of Christ. (KJV) For who hath known the
mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
(ASV) For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he should
instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. |
