The GNOME Mixer Preferences

In the Settings Preferences menu window, the On startup Restore saved mixer levels on startup saves your current mixer settings and adjusts them upon start up. Under GUI, Use mixer icons and Use mixer labels displays icon representation of the channels and the text equivalent respectively.
