Installation Guide

Thank you for downloading CZ Print Release Station 2.0.

CZ Print Release Station 2.0 can be run on Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003 system.

After you download and unzip the CZPrintReleaseStation.zip, you can find two files named CZ Print Release Station.msi and InstallationGuide.htm, and one directory named CZ Print Job Report.

In order to install CZ Print Release Station 2.0 and CZ Print Job Report, you must have the administrator right on the installation computer. If you have any questions, please send the email to support@czsolution.com .

Installing CZ Print Release Station 2.0

1. Double-click 'CZ Print Release Station.msi' you downloaded.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

3. After the installation, and if the printers are not installed on the computer  where CZ Print Release Station is installed, please refer to "Add printers locally on CZ Print Release Station " for detail instructions. The printers must be configured by using the local port such as LPT1 port, Standard TCP/IP port or LPR port and the printers must be shared and paused.

The following two tips is applied to the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed.
 
Tip: The workstations must have access to the shared printers on CZ Print Release Station in order to add network printers. If domain is used, you can add domain users group to the local users group for the shared printers on the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed by doing 'right click the shared printer--> Properties --> Security --> Add' and assign the group 'Print' permission. If workgroup is used, you can create the same user account with the same password on the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed as the workstation login account.
 
Tip: In order to show the correct user name who send the print job in the CZ Print Release Station instead of 'Guest', you can disable the 'Guest' account on the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed. For Windows XP -based CZ Print Release Station, you also need to turn off "Use Simple File Sharing" by going through "Open My Computer--> Click Tools -->Click Folder Opinions -->Click View-->Scroll all the way to the bottom-->Uncheck "Use Simple File Sharing"-->Click OK". )

4. Right click the printer you just added, then click Pause Printing. The status of the printer is changed to paused.

5. Double-click the shortcut 'CZ Print Release Station' on your desktop or select "Start-->Programs-->CZ Solution-->CZ Print Release Station" to run the program.

6. If this is your first time to run CZ Print Release Station, a Preference window is popup.  If not, you can choose the menu item "Print Jobs  -> Preference" to open the Preference Window.

7. Click the 'Refresh List' button, select the printers you just added in the list of Available Shared Printers, and click >>  button to add it to the list of Monitored Printers.

8. Update the Base Cost / Page, Duplex and Color Charging by selecting one or more printer(s) if you would like to make changes.

9. Click Save button to save the setting, then click Exit button to close the Preference window.

10. Make testing. You can print a test page from the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed, and check it by expanding  "Print Jobs" root in the left panel, then click "Waiting Jobs". If the job is not there, please check the above steps again.

11. Configure all workstations to print to the shared printer you just added on the CZ Print Release Station. Please refer to "Add a network printer on workstations" for detail instructions.

12. Make testing. You can print a test page from a workstation, then release it from the CZ Print Release Station.

Tip: You can make CZ Print Release Station 2.0 run in the background by minimizing its Window and you will see a small icon in the right corner on the windows taskbar.
 

Installing CZ Print Job Report (Optional)

Tip: You can install CZ Print Job Report under the same directory as CZ Print Release Station. For example, if you install CZ Print Release Station in the directory 'C:\Program Files\CZ Solution', then it is better to install CZ Print Job Report in the directory 'C:\Program Files\CZ Solution\CZ Print Job Report.

Tip: If you install CZ Print Job Report on Windows 2000, it requires Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.6 SP2 or later installed. (By default, Windows XP and Windows 2003 already have MDAC 2.6 SP2 or later installed). You can find the version number in the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DataAccess\FullInstallVer . You can download MDAC 2.6 or later from Microsoft Website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/downloads/updates/default.aspx#MDAC .

1. Open CZ Print Job Report folder.

2. Double-click 'Setup.exe'.

3. If your computer don't have Microsoft .NET Framework installed, you can install it by going through 'Microsoft Windows Update' (Open Microsoft Internet Explorer, and choose menu item "Tools-->Windows Update") or download .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package for IT Pros directly from Microsoft Website http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/technologyinfo/redist/default.aspx

4. After you install the .NET Framework, double-click 'Setup.exe' again.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

6. After the installation, double-click the shortcut 'CZ Print Job Report' on your desktop or select "Start-->Programs-->CZ Solution-->CZ Print Job Report" to run the program.

Uninstalling CZ Print Release Station 2.0 and CZ Print Job Report


1. Open Add/Remove Programs.

2. Select CZ Print Job Report.

3. Click on Remove button.

4. Select CZ Print Release Station.

5. Click on Remove button.

 

Adding Printers Locally on CZ Print Release Station

        If CZ Print Release Station is installed on a Windows XP or Windows 2003 computer 
       
If CZ Print Release Station is installed on a Windows 2000 computer 

Note: You must log on to the computer as Administrator or as a member of the Administrators group.

If CZ Print Release Station is installed on a Windows XP or Windows 2003 computer

To install a printer locally on a Windows XP-based or windows 2003-based computer, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Printers and Faxes.
2. Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer Wizard, and then click Next.
3. Click Local printer, clear the Automatically detect and install check box, and then click Next.
4. On the Select the Printer Port page, click Use the following port if the printer is physically attached to the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed, click the port to which the printer is connected (for example, Parallel / USB port) , then click Next.

OR

If the printer is attached to the network directly by  network cable or printing server (eg. HP JetDirect) and has a IP address, click Create a new port, and select one of the following opinions:

Opinion1. Select Standard TCP/IP Port in the Type section, and follow the on-screen instructions of Add a Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard.

Opinion2. Select LPR Port in the Type section.  In the Add LPR Compatible Printer box, type the IP address of printer in Name or address of server providing lpd and tape RAW (for most printers) in Name of printer or print queue on that server, then click OK.. (In order to use LPR port, you need to install Print Service for Unix from Control Panel --> Add/Remove Program --> Add/Remove Windows Components --> Other Network File and Print Services-->Print Services for Unix).

5. On the Add Printer Wizard page, click the manufacturer of your printer under Manufacturers, click the model of your printer under Printers, and then click Next.
NOTE: If your printer does not appear in the Printers list, you must provide a printer driver from the manufacturer or select a similar printer from the list. A similar printer is one whose driver is compatible with your printer.
6. On the Name Your Printer page, accept the name that appears, or type the name that you want in the Printer name box. Specify whether you want to use this printer as your default printer, and then click Next.
7. On the Printer Sharing page, select Share as and type the name, and then click Next.
NOTE: CZ Print Release Station always uses the share name of a printer.
8. On the Location and Comment page, type the information that you want in the Location and Comment boxes.
This information helps users determine whether the printer device fits their needs. Click Next.
9. On the Print Test Page page, specify whether you want to print a test page, click Yes, and then click Next.
10. On the Completing the Add Printer Wizard page, confirm the options that you selected, and then click Finish.

If CZ Print Release Station is installed on a Windows 2000 computer

To install a printer locally on a Windows 2000-based computer, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Printers.
2. Double-click Add Printer to start the Add Printer Wizard.
3. Click Local printer, clear the Automatically detect and install check box, and then click Next.
4. On the Select the Printer Port page, click Use the following port if the printer is physically attached to the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed, click the port to which the printer is connected (for example, Parallel / USB port) , then click Next.

Adding Network Printers on Workstations

        Windows XP 
        Windows 2000

        Windows 9X (95/98/98SE/Me)

How to Setup a Network Printer in Windows XP workstation

  1. Click on Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes .
  2. Double click the Add Printer icon and click on Next.
  3. Select A Network printer .... and click Next .
  4. Select Find a printer in the directory  and select the printer on the computer where the CZ Print Release Station is installed.  Or select Connect to this printer... and type into the Name box, the network path to that network printer in the form \\servername\printername.  The servername  is the computer name where CZ Print Release Station is installed, and the printername is the shared name of printer on that computer.  In this example the network printer is \\CZPRS\HP5P. The actual path for your printer will be different. Click on Next when done. (Note: If you can't find the network printer, you may not have access right to the release station computer. You can open the 'My Network Places' on your desktop to find the release station computer where the printer is located, then double-click the release station computer. If you don't have access right on the release station, a popup window is showed up for username and password. After you enter username and password, and go back to 'Add Printer Wizard', you should be able to see the network printer in the list.)
  5. Specify whether you want to use this printer as your default printer, and then click Next.  The printer driver will then be installed on your printer. Click on Finish to complete the installation.
  6. The printer name or icon will appear in your Printers and Faxes folder.  If it is the only printer installed on your system it will be automatically set as the default printer as shown by the tick icon beside the printer. Right-click your mouse over the printer icon and select Properties. This will launch the Properties dialog for the printer.
  7. At the General tab, click Print Test Page to test that the printer is working.  A dialog box will appear to ask you to confirm whether the test print was successful. You can verify this by checking at printer itself. Click OK if the printing was successful.
  8. Note that if you have more than one printer, you can set the newly installed printer as the default by right-clicking your mouse on the printer and selecting Set as Default Printer.
     

How to Setup a Network Printer in Windows 2000 workstation

  1. Click on Start > Settings > Printers .
  2. Double click Add Printer and click on Next in the Add Printer Wizard.
  3. Select Network Printer and click Next .
  4. Select the option "Type the printer name, or click Next to browse for a printer". At the "Name" input box, type the path to the network printer in the form \\servername\printername.  The servername  is the computer name where CZ Print Release Station is installed, and the printername is the shared name of printer on that computer.  Or you can leave the name blank and click next to browse a printer. (Note: If you can't find the network printer, you may not have access right to the release station computer. You can open the 'My Network Places' on your desktop to find the release station computer where the printer is located, then double-click the release station computer. If you don't have access right on the release station, a popup window is showed up for username and password. After you enter username and password, and go back to 'Add Printer Wizard', you should be able to see the network printer in the list.)
    Click on Next to continue. The printer driver will automatically be installed. Click on Finish when done. 
  5. The new network printer should appear in your Printers folder. If it is the only printer installed on your system it will be automatically set as the default printer as shown by the tick icon beside the printer. Right-click your mouse over the printer icon and select Properties. This will launch the Properties dialog for the printer.

  4. In Connect to Printer Window, select the printer on the computer where CZ Print Release Station is installed and click OK. (Note: If you can't find the network printer, you may not have access right to the release station computer. You can open the 'My Network Places' on your desktop to find the release station computer where the printer is located, then double-click the release station computer. If you don't have access right on the release station, a popup window is showed up for username and password. After you enter username and password, and go back to 'Add Printer Wizard', you should be able to see the network printer in the list.)

  5. Click Finish.

  6. The new network printer should appear in your Printers folder. If it is the only printer installed on your system it will be automatically set as the default printer as shown by the tick icon beside the printer. Right-click your mouse over the printer icon and select Properties. This will launch the Properties dialog for the printer.

How to Setup a Network Printer in Windows 9x/ME workstation

  1. Click Start > Settings > Printers.
  2.  Double-click the Add Printer icon.
  3.  At the "Add Printer Wizard" window, click Next.
  4. Select Network Printer and click Next .

  5. At the "Network path or queue name:" box, type the path to the network printer. This has the format \\servername\printername where the servername  is the computer name where CZ Print Release Station is installed, and the printername is the shared name of printer on that computer. Or you click the Browse button to browse the printers.  (Note: If you can't find the network printer, you may not have access right to the release station computer. You can open the 'My Network Places' on your desktop to find the release station computer where the printer is located, then double-click the release station computer. If you don't have access right on the release station, a popup window is showed up for username and password. After you enter username and password, and go back to 'Add Printer Wizard', you should be able to see the network printer in the list.)
  6. A window will be displayed if the printer drivers are not available at the server end. If so, click Have Disk... to install the drivers locally on your computer. 
  7. Click browse to navigate to the location where you can find the Windows 98 printer driver for your printer. This will vary depending on where the driver files are located.  Select the .inf file displayed. The actual file name will vary, refer to manufacturer's guide. Click OK .
  8. The Description for you printer will be shown. Click Next .
  9. When the installation is complete, click on Finish.

How can I get the best performance of my CZ Print Release Station?

1.Click Start --> Control Panel-->Printers.  Right click the printer that you use in CZ Print Release Station 2.0, then click "Properties-->Advanced", uncheck Enable advanced printing features.  In Driver, we recommend you to use the PostScript printer driver for your printers for the best performance of CZ Print Release Station 2.0. For example, if you have a HP LaserJet 4050 series Printer, it is better to use HP LaserJet 4050 series PS driver than to use HP LaserJet 4050 series PCL driver. Click OK when you finish.

2. If your computer don't have Microsoft .NET Framework installed, you can download .NET Framework Version 1.1 (or later) Redistributable Package for IT Pros directly from Microsoft Website http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/technologyinfo/redist/default.aspx  or install it by going through 'Microsoft Windows Update' (Open Microsoft Internet Explorer, and choose menu item "Tools-->Windows Update").

3. Turn off Spool File Pooling.

If you install CZ Print Release Station 2.0 on Windows 2000, you don't need to do anything for this.

If you install CZ Print Release Station 2.0 on Windows XP, 

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey, where <printername> is the name of your printer:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers\<printername>
  3. In the right pane, right-click SpoolDirectory, and then click Modify.
  4. In the Value data box, type the location where you want the spool files to be stored.
    For example, type c:\windows\system32\spool\printers as the default location. (You can get this value from DefaultSpoolDirectory located in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Printers)
  5. Repeat step2 to step 4 for the other printers.
  6. Quit Registry Editor.
  7. Restart the Print Spooler service. (Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Service)
  8. Restart CZ Print Release Station 2.0.

If you install CZ Print Release Station 2.0 on Windows 2003,    

  1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
  2. Locate the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print
  3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  4. In the New Value #1 box, type DisableServerFilePooling, and then press ENTER.
  5. Right-click DisableServerFilePooling, and then click Modify.
  6. In the Value data box, type 1 to turn off spool file pooling, and then click OK.
  7. Quit Registry Editor.
  8. Restart the Print Spooler service. (Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Service)
  9. Restart CZ Print Release Station 2.0.
