Getting Started With Smart Card Setup
The next tasks describe how to set up smart cards for the person to use this local host, or for people at your site who must use smart cards to log in to their desktops or other protected applications.
Before Setting Up a Smart Card
- Attached and configured a card reader for this local host, as described in Configuring a Card Reader.
- Activated card services on the host, as described in Configuring Card Services.
- Configured the OCF server on the host, as described in Configuring the OCF Server.
- Configured authentication for the OCF server, as described in Configuring Authentication on the Host.
- Configured smart card properties for client applications running on the host, as described in Getting Started With Configuring Client Applications.
Tasks for Setting Up a Smart Card
- Loading applets onto the smart cards, as described in To Load Applets Onto the Smart Card.
- Defining personal information for the user, such as the user's name and preferred PIN.
To Load Applets Onto the Smart Card
- Select Load Applets from the Navigation pane, if you have not done this already.
- Double-click the icon representing the applet you want to load onto the card. SolarisAuthApplet is the applet package provided by Solaris Smart Cards.
- Press Help at any time to view help for the Add/Remove Applets Dialog Box.
To Configure Information for the User on the Smart Card
- Make sure that the smart card you want to configure is in the card reader.
- Select Configure Applets from the Navigation pane.
- Click the icon representing the currently installed smart card.
- Press Help at any time to view help for the Configure Applets Dialog Box.
After Setting Up a Smart Card
The smart card is now ready for use. You can set up additional smart cards by repeating the steps described in Tasks for Setting Up a Smart Card.
After smart cards are in use at your site, you might have to update the host to recognize a new card type. Instructions for these tasks are in "Maintaining Smart Cards."
