MobiMarketing - Introduction to MobiSMS for Outlook
Release version 1.731
Welcome to MobiSMS for Outlook.

This section is intended as a Quick Start Guide. You'll find a number of navigation links to help you start using MobiSMS quickly and effectively.

As an HTML page, don't be surprised if you find the contents change on a regular basis. As feedback from our users increases, we'll be including advice on hints and tips, system configuration and related fixes as they surface from our support team.

We would also like to encourage you to forward MobiSMS to your friends and colleagues. MobiSMS can be downloaded and installed in 'demonstration' mode. There are no annoying 'nag' screens or grabs for money. Rather we have configured MobiSMS to install in 'demo' mode and simulate the sending of an SMS. Effectively, you can experience the full functionality of the product and assess whether it matches your needs.

Purchasing a MobiSMS product license will instantly 'activate' your account. This can be done online at the MobiMarketing online store.

We are also encouraging our users to sign up for the MobiMarketing Report. This is our monthly ezine of SMS campaign happenings, research and what's new in the world of mobile messaging. Each issue also contains a MobiSMS for Outlook section. Subscription details are at the bottom of this page.

    3. Frequently Asked Questions

Why when I click New SMS does it say the security system is not initialised?

As soon as MobiSMS is run for the first time, it registers you with the MobiSMS server (the exchange of encryption keys occurs – this occurs via a specially designed e-mail which is sent to our server). Once the security system has initialised, this allows your SMS text messages with our server to be secure and encrypted. This security ensures that your SMS's are protected and that no-one can impersonate you.

I am not sure how to install the MobiSMS software on my computer. Is there help dealing with this?

Just go to the installation Help section for a comprehensive look at the installation of the software and other related matters.

How do I uninstall the MobiSMS software?

Simply go to the Start menu and uninstall it using the 'Add/Remove Programs' option of the control panel, and selecting the 'MobiSMS - Uninstall'. For more information, consult the Help files.

What if my e-mail package is not one of the following: Outlook Express, Outlook 97/98/2000/XP/2003?

Unfortunately these are the only mail packages that are currently supported. In the future support for Lotus notes and other mail packages will be added according to user demand.

What do I do if I have re-installed my computer?

All you have to do is re-install the MobiSMS software and follow the installation wizard's screens. Once you have done this you will be re-registered as yourself and given a new secure key.

What do I do if I have more than one computer?

All you have to do is install MobiSMS on each computer that you want to use it on.

What do I do if more than one person uses my computer?

Each user that wants to run MobiSMS on the computer, must install it once they have logged in to the computer.

Will MobiSMS work with MAPI and SMTP?

MobiSMS has been designed to work with all the available configurations of Outlook. This includes working with MAPI and SMTP configurations.

How do I get the latest version of the MobiSMS software?

You can check if you are running the current version of MobiSMS by going to the MobiSMS menu and clicking on the 'Check for latest upgrade' option. This will take you to a web-page where you will be told if you are running the current version of MobiSMS. If you are not running the latest version you will be told that you should upgrade. Should you need to upgrade, contact your onsite administrator.

Can I use MobiSMS if I don't use Microsoft windows operating systems?

Currently MobiSMS only works on the Microsoft Windows platform. Future versions may cater for other operating systems such as UNIX, Mac OS etc. if there is sufficient demand.

    What mail packages are supported?

Currently only Outlook Express and Outlook 97/98/2000/2003 and XP are supported. In the future, support for Lotus notes and other mail packages will be added according to user demand.

How do I know that MobiSMS is working?

MobiSMS adds a few new menu options, buttons and toolbars to your standard e-mail application. Other than this there are no signs that the system is installed. The most important change is the addition of the new MobiSMS button. When you click this MobiSMS button an SMS composition window will appear. You can check that MobiSMS is working by clicking on this button, composing a message and sending yourself a test SMS.

I didn't receive my SMS message. What happened?

Check our international coverage map to ensure that your area is covered. Check that you have entered the mobile number correctly. Go to Your MobiSMS Account on the main menu bar to check that your message is not pending (queued on the mobile network).

I want to change my user details (such as a phone number). How do I do this?

In this version you can change your phone number by going to the 'Update your details' option on the MobiSMS menu. This change will be used in your outgoing SMS's. These changes should only be made if necessary as they are tracked by the MobiSMS server and reported on.

MobiSMS doesn't seem to allow me to add my Sender ID to my messages? How do I do this?

Select the Sender ID button in the Bulk function and add your Sender ID header (up to 11 alphanumeric characters) in the field provided. If you are using 2-way messaging, this field is reserved for our mobile gateway number to enable SMS replies to be routed to your Inbox. Switching to the MobiSMS 1-way (bulk) messaging gateway is a required to enable this function. Contact MobiMarketing if you would like to request a change of gateway.

Why can't I attach or forward images in my SMS?

SMS messages only allow for the sending of text characters. Future communication standards such as EMS and MMS can cater for images, unfortunately not all phones can currently accept these. Future versions of MobiSMS will cater for these new message sending standards once phones begin to cater for them.

How do I use this if I do not have a permanent net connection?

Whenever you wish to send an SMS, you will have to connect to the internet to send it. You can compose the SMS whilst you are offline and then connect when you are ready to send it.

Why can't I reset my toolbar in Outlook 98?

This is a known problem with the Outlook 98 object model. Should you wish to reset your toolbar, uninstall MobiSMS and then go back into Outlook 98 and reset the toolbar. Once you have done this re-install MobiSMS.

How do I turn off my SMS appointment reminders?

You can turn this option off by going to the MobiSMS menu category. Within this menu category choose the 'Options' menu item. This will display a window where you can turn off the SMS reminders (for appointments and meetings). On this window you can also control your other default SMS settings.

Why does my Outlook not have the MobiSMS buttons and toolbars?

If you have a PDA that uses calendar synching software (like an IPAQ or a Palm) they will prevent new instances of Outlook from having the MobiSMS toolbars and buttons. To get these buttons back, turn off the PDA synching software and then load outlook. You can then re-load the synching software.

How do I check my account balance and purchase additional SMS Credits?

You require an active credit balance in your account to be able to send SMS messages from your Domain. To check your available balance, go to the SMS Administration Page. Logon details were provided to your account administrator when you purchased your licence. Additional SMS Credits are available for purchase from the MobiMarketing online store or by contacting contacting MobiMarketing by telephone or e-mail.
