How CD2HTML works
Searching modes
CD2HTML works in two different search modes. The first is the directory mode. In this mode CD2HTML
searches only for directories. It recursively searches one directory level after another until it
reaches the searching depth from the options dialog or the end of the directory hierarchy. The last
level will be marked as text and will be output in the VALUES area. The upper
hierarchies will be created in their own tables and headlines (HEADLINES area). If you use the file
mode, CD2HTML searches for files and directories. Files are always marked as text and directories
are marked as headlines.
Creating of HTML- indexes
When creating HTML- indexes, CD2HTML works in three different modes:
- Creating one single HTML- file
For all indexed files/directories CD2HTML creates one single HTML file. While doing this, CD2HTML
parses the HEADLINES- part of the current template for each directory in the list (
except the current directory is located on the lowest scanning level equal to the maximum searching
depth). See also the help on templates.
This mode makes only a sense if you scan a depth of maximum two levels. In any other case you
will get an unsatisfactory output.
- Limit the entries per HTML page
If you want to create indexes for example picture or MP3 files it makes a sense to limit the
entries per created HTML page to limit the size of the page and to make the output more tidy.
This mode helps you to do straight this. CD2HTML can also create a navigation list to navigate
between the created pages (prev/next, go to page 4, 5 and so on).
- One single HTML page for each scanned directory
For large indexes it makes no sense to create one page for it. Such a HTML file
can easily grow to some MByte. To avoid this you can use this modus.
CD2HTML creates for each scanned directory one single HTML page which are all linked
together (Windows Explorer look and feel). The starting page can have a different layout
than the other pages.
You can change the different modes in the Options dialog on page HTML I.
