Cachet

Placing the cursor over the toolbar and pressing the right mouse button will pop up the
Cachet menu.

Search Cache... pops up the
search dialog to begin a new search for documents
in the cache.
Clipboard URL operates on URLs copied to the clipboard. If there is no
URL on the clipboard, this option will be shown in gray and disabled. In Netscape,
place the cursor over a link and
use the right mouse button to access the Netscape popup menu. The menu item
Copy Link Location will copy the URL to the clipboard. Cachet will examine
the link and convert it to an absolute address on the web. If the page is available
in the cache, the subsequent dialog box will let you press a button to load the
linked page from your hard drive. If not, you can access it from the web (if you are
connected to the network), or save it in your URL list for future browsing. You
can also cut and paste the URL to your bookmark files.

Open... opens a previously saved file and attempts to rebuild it using images saved
in the cache. While you are surfing the web, you can use Netscape's Save As...
feature to save a copy of the document you are viewing. As you have no doubt seen, this
file only contains the text from the document. Cachet can open this document and check
the cache for any images which are still available to rebuild the original document for
Netscape viewing, or saving as a new document.
Save As... copies the last document viewed to a new directory along with all of its images.
This is equivalent to theCopy button on the
Cache Browse Dialog. You can use this command in
association with the Open... command to rebuild documents saved from Netscape
as files.

URL List Operations
The URL List is a list of URLs saved from Netscape or other applications, such as your
email program. It is used as a To Do List of items that you want to check out
next time you are online. Cachet provides a convenient clipboard robot which
monitors the text on the clipboard looking for URLs. When a new URL shows up from
a copy operation (ctl-C in most programs, right mouse button in Netscape), Cachet
copies it to the URL List. For convenience in retrieving URLs from the list, the
arrow keys on the Cachet toolbar can be used to retrieve pages from the web in sequence
by simply pressing the right arrow until all of the pages have been retrieved.
[Switch buttons to URL List]. You can then
read the pages at your leisure by pressing Netscape's back arrow, or using Cachet's
cache browsing capability.
Show URL List pops up the URL list window for selection or editing. URLs
can be pasted into the list or copied out of it. Use the DEL key to remove
selected URLs. The list can be saved as a text file with a .URL extension for future
browsing. URLs that have been retrieved are marked with a bullet.

Start Clipboard Robot turns on a robot URL capture utility that monitors the Windows clipboard.
When a URL is copied to the clipboard (as with Netscape's right mouse button function:
Copy this Link Location, or using ctl-C on a URL in an email message),
the Clipboard URL dialog box will appear. If the URL refers to a page that is already
in the cache, the Get from cache button will be enabled. If it isn't in the cache,
you can get it from the web, or add it to the URL List.
While the clipboard robot is operating, a clipboard icon will flash on the toolbar.
Click on Stop clipboard robot
to turn off the clipboard robot. If you wish to cut and paste in a document, you will have to
turn off the clipboard robot first.

Switch buttons to URL list toggles the operation of the toolbar. Normally, the toolbar
is used to browse the cache. In this mode, the toolbar arrows turn red and the arrows select
files from the URL list which Netscape will download from the World Wide Web.
The center button of the toolbar
pops up the URL List instead of the cache Browser.
This function is only useful when you are connected to the network.
Select this menu item again to return to
browsing the cache.

Setup/Options... lets you set options and directories...
Options: Cachet can handle links within documents in three ways depending upon
the state of the checkboxes on the Options page. If neither box is checked, links will point
to pages on the web if they contain complete URL addresses. This is always true of
links to pages outside of the original site, so retrieved Yahoo lists will work, for example.
However, if the URL is relative to the current page, it will not function because
the file pointed to does not exist on your hard drive with the expected name.
Checking Link to cached html document will cause Cachet to examine each
link in the pages it is rebuilding and search for it in the cache. If the linked document
exists in the cache, a URL to that document will be generated. When you view the
rebuilt document, you can click on links and retrieve the page from the cache immediately.
This is very convenient, but if there are a lot of links on the page, the rebuild may take a long time.
Checking Convert relative links to absolute URLs will make all links on the
page operate correctly to access documents from the internet. You must be connected
to your network to access the documents, of course. This is the recommended setting.
Remember that the Clipboard URL feature allows you to rebuild a single link
at any time to access a document from the cache or the web regardless of how the
links appear on the page itself. With the Clipboard robot turned on, it is almost as
easy as online browsing.
Directories. This page allows you to specify the Netscape cache directory and
the Netscape program. In most cases, Cachet will automatically find your Netscape
program and fill in these directories properly. However, it is possible to have two different
versions of Netscape on your system. If so, you will want to set the appropriate directories
on this page. You may also be using Cachet to index html documents in an archive
directory rather than for cache browsing. In this case, you will want to set the default
directory appropriate to your needs.
Register. This is where you enter your name and the PIN number we provide
when you register. The name and number
must be entered correctly to operate. If you registered using the built in form available
by pressing the Register button on this page, or in the About Box,
the owner name will have already been entered correctly for you.

About Cache... tells you what version of Cachet you are using and lets you
fill out the registration form by pressing the Register button.
Register. If you do not register Cachet, it will expire and cease to operate.
Registration is done by email using a major credit card. The registration form
is simple and easy to fill in. Just enter the required information and press OK. You
may select any of three currencies to pay in. Your bank will make the required conversion
to your local currency if it is not one of these.
Authorization. After pressing the OK button, you will formally authorize us
to debit your credit card in the appropriate amount.
Message. Your registration information will be converted into a block of characters
which can only be read by us. You can save this to a file which can be attached to an
email message if your application supports file attachments, or you can simply copy the
text to the clipboard and paste it into an email message. Your comments and suggestions
are welcome. We will respond to your registration message as soon as possible with
a PIN number which can be entered under the Setup/Options menu.

Help. Selecting Help will load the documentation pages into Netscape for
easy reading. Most of them are the same as what you are reading now.
Quit exits Cachet. The URL List will be automatically saved for your next
session.
