Reading News Articles

Now we get to the heart of a news group reader; looking at the articles or posts. To start click on the Read tab. Hopefully this screen doesn't look too complicated.

The Group List

The top list is used to get the article headers which include specific information about the article. There are different ways to get these headers. The list displays the Group Name, the number of the First article in the group, the number of the Last article, and the Current article (the last one read).

  • The quick way: double-click on the news group. It will download all the headers between Current and Last (with one exception listed below).
  • CHANGE The two number control gadgets labeled Start and end have been removed. There is now a slider object that controls the start of the range. The number of articles in the range is set in the Preferences. Once you have selected the range, press Get Range. Press it again to get the next set. NOTE: The range slider will start from the last article number read. Since the articles are sorted by date, and then put into threads, the article numbers are not always in order.
  • The one exeption mentioned above; if you select a range and then double-click on the same selected group, it will act as if you hit Get Range.
  • Pressing the Catch Up button will tell mNews that you are finished reading the articles in the group. It will set the Current number equal to the Last.
The Article List

This is the list that allows you to read articles. It displays the Subject, Date, Author, and the Size in bytes. To change what is displayed in the list, use the Settings menu to select. You can also resize and move the columns around. Once you have configured the list to your liking, go again to the Settings menu and hit Save. (See the Configuration page.)

As of now, none of the buttons below the artcle list work. To read the article, double-click on it. This brings up the Article Window. None of the buttons on that window work either. You don't need to close the window when you have finished reading the article, just double-click on another one.
